Japan's move to boost birth rate: Tokyo government develops 'matchmaking' app

According to a report by the Japan-based news agency Kyodo News, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government in Japan's capital has launched a new dating app that matches those who want to get married with suitable candidates as part of efforts to increase the country's declining birth rates.

The AI-powered app, called "Tokyo Enmusubi," which means "Tokyo Matchmaking," is designed for use by people aged 18 and over who live in or commute to the capital, Tokyo.

To ensure security on the platform, users are required to submit a photo ID, proof of income, and documents proving they are legally single. The app aims to match users with partners who suit their expectations and preferences through questions answered during registration.

Stating that there are many people in the country who want to get married but cannot start a relationship, officials expressed that they "aim to encourage those who want to get married to take the first step" with the help of the application.
