Japan's 'oldest man' Sonobe dies at 112

According to the official Kyodo news agency, Sonobe Gisaburo, who was born on November 6, 1911, died in Chiba Prefecture, east of Japan's capital.

The Tateyama Municipality, where Sonobe resided, did not disclose the exact date or cause of the elderly man's death due to family reasons.

Following the death of his predecessor, Nakamura Shigeki, at the age of 111 in Hiroshima in November 2022, Sonobe had held the title of "Japan's oldest man."

Juan Vicente Perez Mora, who was identified as the "world's oldest man," passed away in Venezuela earlier this week at the age of 114.
