According to the latest data released by Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, there has been a significant decrease in the number of Japanese citizens as of October 2024. The number of Japanese citizens in the country fell by 898 thousand people compared to the previous year, declining to 120.3 million. This situation indicates a serious shift in Japan's demographic structure.

The total population, including foreign residents, decreased by 550 thousand people within a year, falling to 123.8 million. The population in the 15-64 age range, considered the working-age group, was recorded at 73.73 million, a decrease of 224 thousand people.

Experts point to the aging of society and the decline in birth rates as the primary reasons for this drop. Japan is attempting to develop various strategies to cope with these demographic challenges.
