Jewels moved to Central Bank following Louvre heist
The major jewelry heist at the Louvre Museum in Paris has caused widespread repercussions in France. Following the robbery, the museum increased security measures and transferred some valuable pieces to the Central Bank of France.
Last week, a robbery at Paris's famous Louvre Museum resulted in the theft of jewelry valued at 88 million euros. The thieves entered the museum in broad daylight, reached the Apollo Gallery with the help of a cherry picker, and stole the royal jewels on display there. It is stated that the robbery lasted only six to seven minutes.
Following this incident, the museum administration took a significant step to address security concerns. The Louvre moved some of the jewelry in its collection to the vaults of the Central Bank of France, located 27 meters beneath the center of Paris. These vaults house a large portion of the country's gold reserves and provide the highest level of security protection.
The Paris Prosecutor emphasized that the stolen jewels hold great importance not only for their material value but also for France's historical and cultural heritage.
While the incident sparked a major reaction among the French public, it was described as a "national disgrace" by some members of parliament.
It is known that the Louvre administration had previously issued warnings regarding the inadequacy of security investments. This situation has brought about debates regarding whether there was negligence on the part of the museum management. With this radical measure taken after the robbery, the museum aims to increase its sensitivity regarding security.
