Joint statement from the US, Arab League, and OIC on the Gaza Summit: The first step toward peace

A joint statement has been released regarding the summit on Gaza, where leaders from the US, the Arab League, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)—of which Turkey is also a member—gathered yesterday. 

The statement addressed the situation in the Gaza Strip, the humanitarian catastrophe caused by Israel in the region, and the serious consequences of the rising death toll on the region. 

The statement emphasized the impact of the humanitarian crisis on the Islamic world and condemned the forced displacement of Palestinians by Israel. The participants also reiterated their shared position that those who have left the Gaza Strip must be allowed to return.

RELEASE OF HOSTAGES AND ENTRY OF AID TO GAZA

The statement emphasized the need to end the war and reach an urgent resolution. The leaders underscored the necessity of both releasing hostages and ensuring the entry of sufficient humanitarian aid into Gaza, stating that this is the first step toward a just and lasting peace.

"A PLAN MUST BE CREATED FOR STABILITY"

While reiterating the parties' commitments to cooperation, the statement also highlighted the need to create a detailed plan to ensure stability in the region. The leaders emphasized the need to maintain stability in the West Bank and at holy sites in Jerusalem.

"THE MOMENTUM MUST BE MAINTAINED"

The statement reiterated support for the Palestinian Authority's reform efforts and noted that a comprehensive project based on an Arab League and OIC plan, along with security arrangements, is necessary for the reconstruction of Gaza. The leaders underscored the importance of supporting the Palestinian Authority with international aid and pledged to cooperate to enable Palestinians to rebuild their lives. The participants stated that the momentum must be maintained to ensure the summit serves as the beginning of a process on the path to peace and regional cooperation.

The summit took place yesterday on the sidelines of the High-Level Week of the 80th UN General Assembly, which is ongoing in New York, USA. In addition to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the summit, hosted by US President Donald Trump and Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, was attended by King Abdullah II of Jordan, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.
