Kate Middleton's absence from the public eye since her surgery in January has led to conspiracy theories on social media.
Agence-France Presse's global news director Phil Chetwynd said that international news agencies pulled the photo due to fears that it had been manipulated and that the Palace had not responded to requests for the original, untouched shots.
The famous broadcaster addressed the issue on his show, Uncensored, on March 14.
Journalist Piers Morgan, who participated in the program, said the following:
"I've been told some things, and if even half of them are true, what is happening is quite worrying. I don't know what to believe, and none of us do; we are not there."
Morgan noted that after American talk-show host John Oliver made a shocking joke that Kate Middleton "could have died 18 months ago," the drama risks turning the Royal family into a laughingstock.
He also questioned why the Princess, who is in the recovery process following abdominal surgery, would spend time editing in Photoshop when she has staff to do so.
Piers Morgan wrote the following in his column:
"The conspiracy theories surrounding Kate Middleton's secret health crisis and her disappearance from public life were made worse by the manipulated family photo she released yesterday.
Added to this is the disturbing confusion over what cancer King Charles is suffering from and how serious his condition is, which has shown that the Palace's method of managing the media is increasingly outdated and ineffective."
