Kamala Harris has selected her vice presidential running mate

U.S. Vice President and Democratic Party presidential nominee Kamala Harris has selected 60-year-old Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her vice presidential running mate.

A 60-year-old U.S. Army National Guard veteran and former teacher, Walz was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2006 from a Republican-leaning district and served for 12 years before being elected governor of Minnesota in 2018.

As governor, Walz has established a progressive agenda that includes free school meals, climate change mitigation goals, tax cuts for the middle class, and expanded paid leave for Minnesota workers.

The Harris campaign hopes that Walz's long National Guard career, as well as his successful high school football coaching and "dad joke" videos, will attract voters who have not yet committed to a second Trump term in the White House.

BIDEN HAD WITHDRAWN FROM THE RACE

59-year-old Harris has revived the Democratic Party's hopes for an election victory since becoming the nominee after 81-year-old President Joe Biden ended his unsuccessful re-election bid under party pressure on July 21.

Former U.S. President and Republican Party presidential nominee Donald Trump had selected Ohio Senator James David Vance as his vice presidential candidate.
