Khaby Lame named UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador: He will work for children's rights

Senegalese-born social media star Khaby Lame has been appointed as a Goodwill Ambassador by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF). Lame attended a ceremony held in his home country of Senegal to receive the title. UNICEF Regional Director for West and Central Africa Gilles Fagninou stated in his speech at the ceremony that Lame's sincerity and universal influence made him ideal for this role.

Lame spent four days meeting with children in various regions of Senegal. He was also received by the President of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye.

Expressing his satisfaction with his new role, Lame said:

'The difficulties I experienced in the past have made me more sensitive to the problems of children and young people. I will use this platform to be their voice.'

Lame, who lives in Italy, has become the most popular figure on TikTok, reaching 162.4 million followers. Known as the 'silent comedian,' Lame uses only gestures and facial expressions in his videos without speaking.

This appointment by UNICEF aims to leverage Lame's ability to reach large audiences to raise awareness on issues such as children's rights and education.
