Khamenei: 'There should be no negotiations with such a US administration'

Meeting with Air Defense Force commanders in the capital Tehran, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei made assessments regarding the relations between his country and the US. Khamenei claimed that negotiations with the US have 'no effect on solving the country's problems.' According to Khamenei, although Iran kept its promises in negotiations held with the US in the past, the US side did not fulfill its promise to lift sanctions.

Addressing the issue of negotiations with the US during his meeting with the commanders, Khamenei emphasized that negotiating with the US is futile, stating the following:

'First of all, we need to correctly understand that negotiating with the US has no effect on solving the country's problems. They should not give us the impression that if we sit at the table with that government, the problems will be solved. No, negotiating with the US does not solve any problems. Why? Because experience shows this.'
"The US did not abide by the agreement"

Recalling that negotiations were held with the US in the past, Khamenei noted the following:

''We sat at the table with the US at the time, and as a result of negotiations that lasted about two years, we signed an agreement. The US was not alone; several other countries participated in the negotiations, but the center of the talks was the US. The government of that period went back and forth many times, held meetings, discussed, talked, smiled, shook hands, and finally reached an agreement.''

Stating that the US did not abide by the agreement reached as a result of the negotiations, Khamenei made the following assessment:

'In this agreement, the Iranian side acted quite generously and made many concessions. The purpose of the agreement was the lifting of US sanctions, but this did not happen. As for the United Nations, an uncertainty was left that could be used as a constant element of threat. This agreement was the result of two years of negotiations.'

Stating that negotiations with the US remained inconclusive, Khamenei continued his words as follows:

''This is an experience, and let us learn a lesson from this experience. We made concessions, we negotiated, we took a step back, but we did not reach the result we wanted. The same agreement, despite all its shortcomings, was violated and broken by the other party. There should be no negotiations with such a US administration. Negotiating is neither a wise nor an honorable act.''

Khamenei gave the following messages to the US:

'The US is trying to change the world map on paper, but this has no reality. They also talk about us, comment, and issue threats. If they threaten us, we will threaten them too. If they put this threat into action, we will do the same. If they attack the security of our people, we will attack their national security without hesitation.'
