King Abdullah of Jordan: I cannot remember a more dangerous time

King Abdullah of Jordan, who is in New York to attend the 79th United Nations (UN) General Assembly, delivered a speech at the General Assembly.

Pointing to the developments in the region, King Abdullah said, "There is rarely a moment in our world without turmoil, but I cannot remember a time more dangerous than what we are experiencing right now."

Stating that the UN is facing a crisis that "strikes at the heart of its legitimacy and threatens to collapse global trust and moral authority," King Abdullah drew attention to the rhetoric of inadequacy directed at international institutions, especially the UN, across the world.

Regarding the issue of Gaza and Palestine, King Abdullah remarked, "The unprecedented scale of atrocities committed in Gaza since October 7 cannot be justified in any way. Palestinians have endured occupation, injustice, and oppression for over 57 years, and throughout these years, the Israeli government has been allowed to cross red lines."

Drawing attention to the peaceful efforts of the Arab world, King Abdullah stated, "The Arab world extended its hand to Israel, ready to normalize relations in exchange for peace, but successive Israeli governments chose conflict due to the impunity they gained from the lack of any deterrent against them."
