King Charles III becomes the first British monarch to address the US Congress

King Charles III and Queen Camilla visited the US Congress following their program at the White House. King Charles addressed members of Congress during a joint session of the House of Representatives and the Senate. Making history as the first British monarch to address Congress, Charles III also became the second member of the British royal family to do so, following the speech delivered by his mother, Queen Elizabeth, in 1991.

In his historic speech, King Charles highlighted the importance of renewing US-UK relations, which had been strained due to the war in Iran. Referring to the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, King Charles stated, "We are coming together in a time of great uncertainty," and noted that the two countries have acted together in every moment of crisis, bringing about great changes not only for their own people but for the entire world.

King Charles said that the "bond of kinship and identity" between the US and the UK is "invaluable, eternal, irreplaceable, and unbreakable."

Call for unity for Ukraine

Stating that the US and the UK fought shoulder to shoulder in World War II, the Cold War, and Afghanistan, King Charles said, "Today, that same unwavering resolve is needed for the defense of Ukraine and its incredibly brave people. It is needed to ensure a truly just and lasting peace."

Drawing attention to the strategic bond between the US and the UK, King Charles used the expression, "This alliance is part of a vision of an Atlantic partnership based on the two fundamental pillars of Europe and America. Today, this partnership carries greater importance than ever before."

Touching upon cooperation between the US and the UK in economy and technology, the risks posed by ignoring the collapse of natural systems, and the values shared by the US and the UK, King Charles said, "The world will remember what we do far more than what we say. The US and the UK must act together, not only for their own people but for all of humanity."
