King Charles III of England recited a Hadith attributed to Prophet Muhammad regarding the people of Oman in Arabic during his speech at a state banquet held in honor of Sultan Haitham bin Tariq.
Sultan Haitham bin Tariq's visit was recorded as the first state visit to England by an Omani Sultan in 44 years. In his speech, King Charles described Oman as one of England's oldest allies.
Drawing attention to Oman's diplomatic role in the region, Charles emphasized the country's "constructive neutrality." Praising Oman's efforts to keep the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's critical routes for maritime transport, open, Charles said, "Oman's role across the Gulf and its constructive neutrality carry significance far beyond the Strait of Hormuz and deserve our deepest respect."
Continuing his speech, King Charles quoted the words attributed to Prophet Muhammad, said to have been spoken to console an envoy who had been subjected to insults and violence after being sent to one of the Arab tribes, and recited the expression in Arabic.
Charles shared the Hadith in English, stating: "As the Prophet Muhammad said of the character of the people of Oman; if you had gone to the people of Oman, they would have neither insulted you nor struck you."
