Labour Party makes its mark on UK elections
In local elections held in England and Wales, the Conservative Party saw a decline in the number of its councilors, while the Labour Party achieved a major victory, increasing its number of councilors to 1,026 with 173 new seats.
In the voting held yesterday across 107 electoral districts to determine local governments in England and Wales, results have been announced for 102 local councils so far.
Accordingly, the main opposition Labour Party increased its number of councilors to 1,026 with 173 new seats, while the ruling Conservative Party lost 448 seats, with its number of members falling to 479.
The Liberal Democrats gained 101 new seats, independents 92, and the Greens 65.
Following the resignation of former Conservative Party MP Scott Benton, the new MP for Blackpool South was also determined in the voting held during the local elections. The by-election there was won by the main opposition Labour Party candidate, Chris Webb.

THE TIDE IN LONDON TURNS TOWARDS LABOUR AGAIN
The mayor who will govern the UK's capital, London, for the next 4 years will be determined tomorrow. The results for the London Mayoral election will be announced at City Hall tomorrow. Similarly, the members of the London Assembly will also be determined tomorrow.
Vote counting continues for many municipalities. It is anticipated that the final results will be announced by Sunday.
With these elections, 39 police and crime commissioners who will serve in England and Wales will also be determined.
