Lalique Museum in France robbed: Millions of euros worth of jewelry stolen

The Lalique Museum in the town of Wingen-sur-Moder in the Bas-Rhin department of northeastern France has made headlines after a robbery in which jewelry worth millions of euros was stolen. A wide-ranging investigation was launched after the incident.

According to information in the local press, the robbery took place yesterday between 05.00 and 06.00 local time. The thieves were said to have broken the museum’s entrance door and 6 display cases inside.

The pieces stolen from the museum, where works by French glassmaker and jeweler René Lalique are exhibited, were reported to be worth millions of euros. Wingen-sur-Moder Mayor Christian Dorschner said the missing jewels were “unique pieces” belonging to the artist.

Dorschner said the alarms and security system were active when the thieves entered the museum. While it was alleged that the robbery was carried out by several masked people, it was noted that the investigation to catch the perpetrators was continuing.

MUSEUM HEISTS IN FRANCE IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Robberies targeting different museums in France have drawn attention recently. At the Cognacq-Jay Museum in Paris, works decorated with gold and precious stones were stolen on 20 November 2024 from an exhibition containing objects from the Enlightenment period.

At the Natural History Museum in Paris, about 6 kilograms of gold bullion considered to have historical artifact value disappeared on 16 September 2025. That same year, the Louvre Museum’s Apollo Gallery was also targeted, and 8 historical artifacts were stolen from the section housing royal jewels.

At the Denis Diderot House of Enlightenment Museum in the city of Langres in the Haute-Marne department, gold and silver coins from the 18th and 19th centuries were also reported stolen on 20 October 2025.
