Latest on radio explosions in Lebanon: Authorities announce death toll

The death toll continues to rise following the detonation of radios used by Hezbollah members in Lebanon yesterday. In a statement from the Lebanese Ministry of Health, it was reported that the number of people who lost their lives as a result of the radios exploding in different parts of the country has risen to 20, and the number of injured is over 450.

Furthermore, it was suggested that the goal of the attack on the radios, which followed Israel's pager attack, was to increase fear within the ranks of Hezbollah and to pressure its leaders to change their policy regarding the conflict with Israel.

It was also alleged that the decision for the second attack was made with the assessment that Hezbollah's investigation into the first attack (pager explosions) would reveal the security vulnerability in the radios.

DID ISRAEL PLACE EXPLOSIVES IN THE RADIOS?

In a statement made by the Japan-based ICOM, to which the radios belong, it was stated that the production of the radios in question was discontinued 10 years ago and that the matter is being investigated. It had been alleged that the radios were booby-trapped in advance by Israeli intelligence.

On the other hand, in a report by the US news site Axios yesterday, which cited two sources on the subject, it was stated that the detonated radios were booby-trapped in advance by Israeli intelligence services and delivered to Hezbollah.

It was stated that the radios were part of an emergency communication system to be used in a possible war with Israel. It was reported that the radios were produced solely for use during a war with Israel and that a large number of radios were stored in Hezbollah warehouses.

Meanwhile, Israel was held responsible for the pager explosions that took place in Lebanon on Tuesday, which killed 12 people and injured at least 2,750. There has been no statement from Hezbollah yet regarding the detonation of the radios yesterday.
