Le Pen announces her candidacy for 2027 in France

It has been stated that far-right politician Marine Le Pen, who ran against Emmanuel Macron in the presidential elections held in France in 2022, will be a candidate again in 2027.

Julien Odoul, spokesperson for Le Pen's party, the National Rally (RN), announced in an interview with CNews and Europe 1 that the party's official candidate for the 2027 presidential elections will be Marine Le Pen.

Spokesperson Odoul stated that in the event of a dissolution of the National Assembly following the motion of no confidence filed against the government over the controversial immigration law, RN leader Jordan Bardella would assume the presidency of the government, while Marine Le Pen "does not want to manage France, but to preside over France."

Le Pen handed over the leadership of her party, the RN, to Jordan Bardella in 2022.

Le Pen, who made it to the second round with Emmanuel Macron in the 2022 presidential elections, lost the presidential race after receiving approximately 42 percent of the vote. Having received approximately 34 percent of the vote in the 2017 elections, Le Pen increased her vote share by 8 points in the 2022 presidential elections.

In a television program she attended in September, Le Pen used the expression, "I am my party's natural candidate for the 2027 presidential elections."

Current President Macron cannot run again in the 2027 elections according to the Constitution, as he has been elected for a second term.
