A letter from Maduro to Trump

In the letter sent by Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro to US President Donald Trump on September 6, in which he denied allegations of drug trafficking and links to criminal organizations, he stated, "President Trump, I hope that we can overcome these lies that damage our relations, which should be peaceful. This and various other issues can always be discussed directly and openly with your Special Envoy Richard Grenell to reduce media noise and fake news."

According to Reuters, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro sent a letter to the administration of US President Donald Trump on September 6 to propose direct talks. In his letter, Maduro rejected US accusations that Venezuela plays a significant role in drug trafficking.

The Venezuelan President stated that only 5 percent of drugs produced in Colombia pass through Venezuela, and that 70 percent of those are seized and destroyed by authorities. Regarding the Trump administration's accusations linking him to drug trafficking and criminal organizations, Maduro said, "This is the most serious example of disinformation against our country and is intended to legitimize an armed conflict that could have devastating consequences across the entire continent."

"I HOPE WE CAN OVERCOME THESE LIES TOGETHER"

Maduro said, "President Trump, I hope that we can overcome these lies that damage our historical and peaceful relations. This and various other issues can always be discussed directly and openly with your Special Envoy Richard Grenell to reduce media noise and fake news." Maduro also noted that Grenell had previously provided assistance in overcoming accusations that Venezuela did not accept the return of its migrants from the US, adding, "This channel has worked perfectly so far."

US President Trump maintains his determination regarding the return of Venezuelan migrants and prisoners. In a statement today, Trump demanded that Venezuela accept all prisoners the US wishes to deport. Trump had stated, "Accept these prisoners immediately, or the price you pay will be incalculable."

The US President also stated in another statement yesterday that a boat departing from Venezuela, which was alleged to be carrying drugs, had been struck. While Trump announced, "In the attack, 3 male narco-terrorists on the boat were killed," he did not provide any evidence that the boat was carrying drugs. The attack in question was the third of the operations recently conducted by the US against drug traffickers in the Caribbean and South America.
