LGBT organization banned in Russia

The Russian Ministry of Justice has included the international LGBT movement and its structural subdivisions in the list of banned and liquidated organizations in accordance with a court ruling.

LGBT MOVEMENT OFFICIALLY BANNED

The Supreme Court had recently recognized the LGBT movement as an 'extremist organization.' As of today, the Ministry of Justice has also officially banned the movement and announced that affiliated entities and organizations will be liquidated.

In accordance with Article 1 of Federal Law No. 114 dated July 25, 2002, on countering extremist activities, various signs and manifestations of an extremist nature, including the incitement of social and religious discord, had been identified in the activities of the LGBT movement operating within the territory of the Russian Federation.

Lawyer Dmitriy Agranovskiy had stated that the Russian Supreme Court's decision to recognize the LGBT movement as extremist would not affect the lives of ordinary people, as those being banned were not them, but rather 'a hostile organization using them as a subpoena.'
