Libya Naval Academy Commander killed in armed attack

In Libya's capital Tripoli, Naval Academy Commander Abdurrahman Milad has lost his life as a result of an armed attack. According to information obtained from security sources, Milad, known by the nickname "Al-Bija," was killed after machine gun fire was opened on his vehicle in the west of the capital, Tripoli. The identities of those who carried out the attack have not yet been determined, but it has been reported that an investigation into the incident has been launched.
Security sources stated that Milad had many enemies and that armed groups supporting him have begun to gather following his death. It is stated that this situation could trigger new tensions in the region.
Chairman of the High Council of State of Libya Khalid al-Mishri, in a condolence message published on the social media platform Facebook, called for the assassins of Milad to be captured and brought to justice as soon as possible.
WHO IS ABDURRAHMAN MILAD?
According to a United Nations (UN) report published in 2017, Abdurrahman Milad was involved in the sinking of a boat carrying refugees, an incident that also included a former official from the Libyan Coast Guard.
In a report published by the UN Security Council in 2018, Milad was accused of leading human trafficking organizations in Libya, and being involved in the torture of migrants and human rights violations. Known as an international criminal for these reasons, Milad was detained in Tripoli by the Ministry of Interior affiliated with the Libyan government in October 2020.
