Lithuania to begin seizing vehicles with Russian license plates starting March 11

In a statement from the Lithuanian Customs Department, it was announced that starting March 11, those using vehicles with Russian license plates will be considered in violation of regulations and will be held accountable under the Code of Administrative Offenses.

The statement noted that there are approximately 50 vehicles with Russian license plates in Lithuania, and their owners face fines of up to 6,561 dollars, with the vehicles subject to seizure if they do not leave the country.

DIPLOMATIC VEHICLES EXEMPT FROM THE BAN

It was stated that Russian citizens traveling to or from Russia's Kaliningrad region through Lithuania will be exempt from the ban, provided they possess the necessary documentation and their transit through Lithuania does not exceed 24 hours.

Additionally, it was noted that diplomatic vehicles are also exempt from the ban.

Lithuania had banned the entry of vehicles with Russian license plates into the country in September 2023, following the recommendation of the European Commission.
