Macron and Netanyahu discuss Israel-Lebanon tensions

According to a statement from the French Embassy in Tel Aviv's X account, Macron and Netanyahu discussed the situation in the region over the phone.

Macron expressed his serious concern over the rising tension between Israel and Hezbollah along the Blue Line.

Pointing out that an escalation of tension that would work against the interests of Lebanon and Israel must be prevented, Macron noted that such a situation would also be an extremely dangerous development for regional stability.

Macron underscored the importance of maximum restraint, stressing that all parties must move rapidly toward a diplomatic solution.

Stating that France is ready to work on a diplomatic solution, Macron expressed his opposition to a new "operation" by Israel in Rafah and Khan Yunis.

Macron emphasized the need for an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza and the removal of all obstacles at crossing points to ensure humanitarian aid reaches the region in line with the needs of the population.

Stating that there must be a political framework leading to a two-state solution to emerge from the "crisis" in the region, Macron called for the removal of all obstacles to the transfer of funds to the Palestinian government.

Macron condemned the announcements regarding the legalization of 5 illegal settlement outposts in the occupied West Bank on the grounds that they undermine the two-state solution and peace efforts.

The two politicians also discussed Iran's nuclear program during the call.

TENSION ON THE BLUE LINE

Israel, which has been continuing its attacks on the Gaza Strip since October 7, is also clashing with Lebanon's Hezbollah on its northern border.

Tensions have been escalating in recent weeks along the border line between Israel and Lebanon, known as the "Blue Line."

The Israeli army announced on June 18 that it had approved an "operational plan" for a possible attack on Lebanon.

Israeli Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz also stated in a statement on June 21 that Hezbollah's attacks on Israeli territory and citizens could not be allowed and that they would take the necessary decisions soon.

So far, 356 Hezbollah members have been killed in attacks carried out by the Israeli army on Lebanon since October 8.
