Macron asks Prime Minister Attal to remain in office

French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal arrived at the Elysee Palace to submit his resignation to Emmanuel Macron after the alliance of left-wing parties emerged as the winner in the general elections.

A statement from the presidential office indicated that Macron has asked Attal to remain in the post of prime minister for the time being in order to ensure stability in the country.

French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal had announced yesterday, following the confirmation of the election results, that he would submit his resignation and stated that he would continue his duties until a new government is formed.

The French Ministry of the Interior announced that the New Popular Front alliance, formed by left-wing parties, came in first in the second round of the snap general elections held yesterday. A coalition government is expected to be formed in the country, where no party or alliance was able to secure a majority in parliament.
