Macron to Netanyahu: He should not forget that his country was established by a UN resolution

It has been claimed that French President Emmanuel Macron targeted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his speech at a Council of Ministers meeting.

Reports in the French press state that Macron drew attention to the tension in Lebanon and the increasing Israeli attacks on the UN peacekeeping force, alleging that he said, "Netanyahu must not forget that his country was established by a UN resolution, and therefore he must comply with UN decisions."

The reports noted that officials present at the meeting confirmed the statement in question.

France recently summoned the Israeli Ambassador to Paris to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs following attacks on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

TENSION IN FRANCE-ISRAEL RELATIONS

Relations between Macron and Netanyahu have become strained in recent weeks. During a phone call between the two leaders on October 6, Macron's call for a halt to arms shipments used in Gaza was harshly criticized by Netanyahu. Netanyahu responded to Macron's request by calling it "disgraceful," leading to a verbal altercation between the two leaders.

Following this tension, the French Presidency issued a statement emphasizing that France is an unwavering friend of Israel, while also clearly reiterating Macron's stance that UN resolutions must be respected.

Last week, following the injury of UN peacekeeping soldiers in attacks carried out by Israel, Macron described Israel's targeting of UN forces as "absolutely unacceptable" and stated that France would never again tolerate such attacks.
