Macron: We will recognize Palestine on Monday
French President Emmanuel Macron has announced that they will recognize Palestine on Monday. In a post shared in French, English, Arabic, and Hebrew, Macron stated, "A Palestinian state must be established and its survival ensured. (Hamas) must be allowed to contribute to the security of everyone in the Middle East by accepting disarmament and recognizing Israel."
In his post, which also included the letter he wrote to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Macron announced that his country would officially declare its decision to recognize the Palestinian state at the UN Security Council meeting to be held in September.
Macron stated that what is currently urgent in the region is "the end of the war in Gaza and the rescue of the civilian population." Reiterating his call for an immediate ceasefire, the release of hostages held by Hamas, and the delivery of large-scale humanitarian aid to Gaza, Macron emphasized that Hamas must be disarmed.
Macron said, "At the same time, the disarmament of Hamas must be guaranteed, and Gaza must be made secure and rebuilt. Finally, a Palestinian state must be established and its survival ensured. (Hamas) must be allowed to contribute to the security of everyone in the Middle East by accepting disarmament and recognizing Israel."
Noting that there is "no other alternative" to solving the problem, Macron said they have a "responsibility to show that peace is possible in the region." France and Saudi Arabia will co-chair the "International Conference on Palestine" on July 28-30, where a peaceful, two-state solution to the Palestinian issue will be discussed.
