Macron's popularity at its lowest level in history
French President Emmanuel Macron's popularity among the French public has fallen to its lowest level since he took office in 2017.
According to the results of a poll conducted by the polling company Elabe for the newspaper Les Echos in France, Macron's popularity has dropped by 3 points in one month to 22 percent. Macron's popularity has reached its lowest level since he took office in May 2017. 72 percent of citizens stated that they do not "trust" Macron to effectively combat the country's problems. Public confidence in Prime Minister Michel Barnier, who was appointed to lead the government a month ago, also fell by 3 points to 28 percent.
The rate of distrust toward the center-right Barnier among the public increased by 6 points to 54 percent. The most popular politicians in France were Macron's former prime ministers, Edouard Philippe and Gabriel Attal. The poll emphasized that the President's popularity did not fall below 23 percent even in December 2018, when the widespread Yellow Vest protests took place.
