Major backlash from Armenians against US Vice President JD Vance
US Vice President JD Vance drew the ire of the Armenian community after he deleted a social media post shortly after visiting the "Armenian Genocide Memorial" in Yerevan.
United States Vice President JD Vance traveled to Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, as part of his official engagements. Making the first official visit to Armenia by a sitting US vice president, Vance also stopped by the "Armenian Genocide Memorial," which holds great significance in the country and refers to the events of 1915, during his contacts in Armenia.
Vance laid flowers at the memorial and shared a photo of his visit with the public on his social media account. However, this post was removed shortly thereafter.
The deletion of the post caused a widespread reaction on social media, particularly among the Armenian public. The Armenian community, in particular, criticized Vance for removing the post, arguing that this move "overshadowed the message of support."
While Vance's visit and his statement of support for the Armenian government were welcomed in Armenia, the withdrawal of the post also caused a stir in diplomatic circles.
