Two military helicopters belonging to the Malaysian Navy have collided in mid-air. 10 people lost their lives as a result of the collision.
10 people have lost their lives as a result of a mid-air collision between 2 military helicopters belonging to the Malaysian Navy.
In a statement made by the Royal Malaysian Navy, it was reported that 2 navy helicopters collided in mid-air during a parade rehearsal at the Lumut naval base in the western state of Perak at 09:32 local time.
It was stated that a total of 10 people lost their lives in the accident.
The statement included the following: "It has been confirmed that the crew members lost their lives at the scene. All of them have been sent to the Lumut naval base military hospital for identification."
It was stated that an investigation into the cause of the accident will be launched.
Malaysian Defense Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin said in his statement that the M503-3 helicopter and the Fennec military helicopter were rehearsing for a parade for the Royal Malaysian Navy's 90th anniversary celebrations to be held on Saturday.
In the footage shared in local media, it was seen that one of the helicopters collided with the other, and then both went into a rapid descent.
It was learned that there were 7 personnel on one of the helicopters and 3 on the other.
