Marco Rubio becomes Trump's Secretary of State: Senate confirmation received

Former Senator Marco Rubio, nominated by US President Donald Trump for the position of Secretary of State, has become the first cabinet member appointed to the Trump administration after receiving approval in a vote held in the Senate chamber of Congress.

As a result of the vote, Rubio has become the 72nd Secretary of State of the United States.

The former Republican Senator from Florida was confirmed as Secretary of State in the Senate vote with 99 “yes” votes to 0.

Rubio, the child of a Cuban immigrant family, has been recorded in history as the first Latino Secretary of State in US history.

Throughout his 14-year tenure as a senator, Rubio served on key congressional committees, including the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and the Senate Intelligence Committee.

Rubio also competed for the nomination in the 2016 Republican presidential primaries

SON OF A CUBAN IMMIGRANT FAMILY

Born on May 28, 1971, in Miami, Florida, Rubio is the child of a Cuban immigrant family. Trump's anti-immigrant stance makes Rubio's appointment noteworthy.

Elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 1998, Rubio served as a member of the US Senate as a Florida Senator from 2010 until the last election cycle.
