Mayor accused of taking bribes from Turkey compares himself to Jesus: 'Are you stupid?'

New York Mayor Eric Adams has filed a motion in federal court to dismiss the case brought against him, which includes charges of bribery and fraud.

Adams' lawyers submitted a petition to the federal court in Manhattan, alleging "prosecutorial misconduct" and seeking the dismissal of the case.

CLAIM OF "DENIAL OF RIGHT TO A FAIR TRIAL"

The petition alleged that "misconduct occurred" when a letter from prosecutor Danielle Sassoon, who is overseeing the case, explaining why the charges against Adams should not be dismissed, was leaked to the public.

The lawyers argued that the public disclosure of internal struggles within the Department of Justice violated Adams' constitutional rights, was contrary to law and court rules, and therefore denied Adams his right to a fair trial.

In the letter in question, prosecutor Sassoon had offered to resign because she did not want to comply with the Department of Justice's instruction to dismiss the charges against Adams, and the Department of Justice had accepted Sassoon's resignation.

In the response given to Sassoon, who resigned on February 13, it was stated that President Donald Trump needed Adams, particularly to assist in combating irregular migration and violent crime, and it was noted that the charges would also affect the New York mayoral race to be held this year.

The U.S. Department of Justice announced on February 10 that a decision had been made that all charges against Mayor Adams should be dismissed, though it was noted that "the charges could be refiled in the future." Upon this request, the federal judge overseeing the case canceled the hearing scheduled for April until the process is clarified.

COMPARED HIMSELF TO JESUS, SAID "ARE YOU STUPID?"

Meanwhile, addressing his supporters last night at his official residence in Manhattan as part of a "Black History Month" event celebrated in February, Mayor Adams rejected calls for his resignation.

Comparing himself to Jesus, Adams stated, "This moment is a biblical situation. You know, when Jesus was crucified, he said, 'Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.' May God forgive all these Black people who are asking me to resign."

Adams also stated that he would not withdraw from the New York mayoral race to be held on November 4 of this year, saying, "Are you stupid? I am currently continuing my election campaign."

Due to the corruption charges against him and his subsequent close contact with the Trump administration, calls for the resignation of Democratic Mayor Eric Adams had been made, primarily by some party members in the New York City Council.
