McDonald's Instagram account hacked: Hundreds of thousands of dollars stolen

The Instagram account of one of the world's most popular fast food chains, McDonald's, has been seized by a hacker group. The hackers used the popular social media platform they had compromised to promote a 'meme token' called "GRIMACE" launched on the Solana network.

Following the promotion, the token's market value surged from 100 thousand dollars to 20 million dollars. Once it was revealed that the account, which has more than 5 million followers, had been hacked, users began selling, and the token's value dropped below 1 million dollars.

'THANK YOU FOR THE 700 THOUSAND DOLLARS'

According to reports by Sözcü, the hacker group also added a note to the biography section of McDonald's Instagram account saying, "Thank you for the $700,000 on Solana."

While McDonald's has not made an official statement, an official speaking to The US Sun said, "We are aware of an isolated incident that impacted our social media account. We have resolved the issue with the account. We apologize to our followers for the offensive language posted during this time."
