Media giant to lay off 1,000 employees
UK-based media company Sky plans to lay off approximately 1,000 people this year
According to reports in the British media, a significant portion of the employees to be laid off will be engineers, as more and more people are accessing the company's services via the internet and the number of those wanting to have satellite dishes installed in their homes is decreasing.
The 1,000 people Sky plans to lay off this year represent approximately 4 percent of the media company's workforce. Sky currently employs approximately 26,000 people in the UK.
A Sky spokesperson quoted in the reports stated that customers are increasingly choosing Sky Glass and Sky Stream, which do not require expert installation, and that this situation has led the company to change the number of positions it needs to provide its services.
