Meloni and Netanyahu meet

Meloni, who attended the "Cairo Peace Summit" held today in Egypt with the participation of heads of state and government to discuss developments in Gaza, traveled to Israel following her contacts there.

In a statement from the Italian Prime Minister's Office regarding Meloni's contacts in Israel, it was stated: "Following the Cairo Peace Summit, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni traveled to Israel to convey Italy's message of solidarity and closeness following the tragic terrorist attack carried out by Hamas against defenseless civilians on October 7."

The statement, which noted that the meeting with Prime Minister Netanyahu was an opportunity to receive up-to-date information on the current situation and to evaluate the Cairo Conference, said: "The Prime Minister (Meloni) reiterated Israel's right to defend itself and live in peace in accordance with international law, while underlining the importance of guaranteeing humanitarian access to Gaza and the prospect of peace for the region."

Meanwhile, a post on the "X" platform by the Italian Prime Minister's Office stated that Meloni held a phone call with Israeli President Isaac Herzog during her visit, adding: "The conversation was an opportunity to reiterate solidarity with the Israeli people following Hamas's brutal attacks and to discuss possible future perspectives for peace in the region."
