Member of 'Şahinler' gang arrested in Greece: May be Sedat Şahin's nephew

A Turkish citizen identified as E.K. has been arrested on the Greek island of Chios and sent to prison. The Greek press reported that E.K. is a member of the 'Şahinler' criminal organization and has close ties to the group's leader, Sedat Şahin.

It has been alleged that E.K., who was arrested in Greece, is the nephew of Sedat Şahin.

POLICE FOUND FORGED DOCUMENTS AND ILLEGAL WEAPONS IN E.K.'S HOME

It was reported that a search of the individual's home uncovered a handgun, a magazine, 41 rounds of ammunition, and two forged documents (an Italian identity card and a driver's license). According to the press, Greek intelligence believes that E.K. fled to Greece to escape ongoing gang wars in Turkey.

According to information obtained by the Greek press from the Ministry of Migration and Asylum, the asylum card issued to E.K. on June 14 was valid for two years, but E.K.'s asylum application had not yet been finalized.

Greek television station MEGA TV reported the incident with the following statements:

'The 30-year-old Turkish citizen, who was arrested on the island of Chios on September 11, was moving freely in Greece with a two-year "asylum" card that allowed him to travel on the island and rent a house. The man, who was detained on charges of illegal possession of weapons and forgery, had entered Greece earlier this year via Diavata.'

MAY HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN CRIME IN GREECE AS WELL

E.K. was able to travel freely within Greece with the asylum card he held. It was understood that E.K. went to the island of Chios in August and rented the house where he was eventually arrested.

In its report, MEGA TV also stated that E.K. had shared posts on his social media account showing off a luxury car he owned and posing with 'heavy weapons'.

According to MEGA TV, E.K. was captured as a result of an operation by the Greek National Intelligence Service (EYP).

The report noted that authorities are investigating E.K.'s potential links to the killing of 6 Turkish citizens in Greece about a year ago and a series of armed attacks that took place in Piraeus.
