Membership of far-right AfD in Germany increases by 37 percent

In Germany, the number of members of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party has increased by 37 percent in one year. The AfD reported that its membership has exceeded 40,000.

In a statement from the party, it was noted that the AfD has reached a total of 40,131 members, representing a 37 percent increase in membership compared to last year. 

AFD IS THE SECOND LARGEST PARTY IN THE COUNTRY

The AfD, which entered the Federal Parliament with 10.3 percent of the vote in the 2021 general elections, has recently emerged as the second-largest party in the country after the Christian Union parties (CDU/CSU), with polling figures in the 21-23 percent band in surveys conducted by various polling companies.

According to a survey conducted by the Civey research company for the Saechsiche Zeitung newspaper regarding the state parliament elections to be held in the state of Saxony in September 2024, the AfD is in first place in Saxony with 37 percent of the vote.

In the survey, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) is in second place with 33 percent.

State parliament elections will be held in Thuringia and Brandenburg in September 2024. Research shows the AfD in first place in these states as well.
