Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov made statements regarding the proposals that may come from Washington ahead of the visit of Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Moscow. Lavrov stated that Moscow will evaluate the proposals based on their economic and financial returns, but will not make any political concessions.
Emphasizing that they have not completely closed the door to potential proposals, Lavrov said, "We will see what they propose. If they offer us something that is advantageous from an economic and financial perspective, why not?"
The Russian minister also touched upon US President Donald Trump's decision to grant exemptions on some sanctions against Russia. According to Lavrov, Washington does not see broad tax measures as being in its own interest at the current stage.
Lavrov explained the US's calculation regarding energy markets with the following words: "What they need right now (even if they don't say it explicitly, everyone understands it) is to ensure that global energy markets do not enter a deep crisis before the elections. Therefore, they see no harm in the continued supply of Russian diesel fuel."
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also said in a separate statement that Witkoff would visit Russia to convey proposals aimed at advancing peace efforts to Moscow. Zelenskyy stated that the option of a possible trilateral summit between the leaders of Ukraine, Russia, and the US is also on the agenda.
Speaking after his meeting with US representatives and Scandinavian leaders in Oslo, Zelenskyy stated that they are acting together with European partners and assessed, "One of the important ideas is to move toward a potential trilateral leaders' summit to address issues that only leaders can resolve."
