Message to Turkey from Sweden's new Foreign Minister Stenergard: 'I am looking forward to it'

Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard expressed in an interview that she is looking forward to developing cooperation with Turkey. Stenergard also shared her views on the ongoing war in Gaza, stating that she advocates for a two-state solution.

Stenergard, who was appointed as foreign minister yesterday to replace Tobias Billström, who resigned on September 4, made statements to an AA correspondent.

Stenergard said, 'I will continue to be in close cooperation with Turkey, especially as our partner in NATO. I am looking forward to developing this cooperation.'

Stating that Sweden's policy on Palestine and Israel is centered on peace, Stenergard used the expression, 'First of all, the weapons must fall silent in the region and peace must be established. There must be a two-state solution.'

Emphasizing that they will continue to provide full support to Ukraine, Stenergard said, 'Ukraine's cause is our cause. Ukraine should become a member of the European Union in a short time and our support for Ukraine will continue.'

Swedish state television SVT announced that Foreign Minister Stenergard will make her first foreign visit to Turkey on September 18.
