Microsoft's $80 billion artificial intelligence move

Microsoft Vice Chair and President Brad Smith stated in a blog post titled "The Golden Opportunity for American AI" that artificial intelligence is the electricity of this era and that the next four years could lay the foundation for America's economic success over the next quarter-century.

Smith noted that artificial intelligence promises to foster innovation and increase productivity in every sector of the economy, and that the US is poised to be at the forefront of this new wave of technology if it doubles down on its strengths and partners effectively on the international stage.

Stating that the US is leading the global artificial intelligence race thanks to private capital investments and the innovations of American companies, Smith indicated that Microsoft plans to invest approximately $80 billion in the 2025 fiscal year to build AI-powered data centers to train AI models and deploy AI and cloud-based applications worldwide.

Smith expressed that more than half of this investment will be made in the US, reflecting their commitment to the US and their confidence in the American economy.

Emphasizing that the most important public policy priority for the US should be to ensure that the private sector can continue to move forward with the wind at its back, Smith pointed out that the private sector should not be slowed down by heavy regulations.

Smith stressed the need for a pragmatic export policy that allows companies to grow and provide reliable supplies to allied countries while ensuring the security of artificial intelligence components.
