The Colombian Ministry of Defense stated that the C-130 Hercules military cargo plane crashed shortly after takeoff from Puerto Leguizamo, near the Peruvian border, and confirmed that the aircraft was transporting soldiers.
Colombian Minister of Defense Pedro Sanchez announced that the cause of the crash and the number of casualties are not yet known.
Reports in the Colombian press indicated that there were 110 soldiers on board the plane and that the crash occurred just 3 kilometers from a city center.
