Minister Fidan and his US counterpart Rubio meet

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington DC, the capital of the United States. During the bilateral meeting, the topics discussed in the phone call between President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and US President Donald Trump were followed up on, and both sides clearly demonstrated their political will to remove obstacles to cooperation in the defense industry. It was stated that technical discussions will be held to resolve existing issues.

The Turkish and US delegations emphasized the importance of engagement with the Syrian administration and expressed determination regarding ensuring stability in Syria and combating terrorism. It was emphasized that a permanent ceasefire must be established in Gaza and that this issue is essential for regional peace. Efforts toward achieving a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine were discussed. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs conveyed that the efforts put forward by the US on this matter are supported. In the meeting, where the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia was also brought to the agenda, it was underlined that the stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina is of great importance for the Balkans, and preparations for visits to be made at the head of state level in the coming period were discussed.

Present at the meeting from the Turkish side were Turkey's Ambassador to Washington Sedat Önal, the Director General for Bilateral Relations, the Director General for Foreign Policy Coordination, and the Ministry Spokesperson.

On the US side, Senior Bureau Official for European and Eurasian Affairs Lou Bono, Deputy Assistant Secretary for European and South Caucasus Affairs Josh Huck, the Ministry Spokesperson, and the Director for South East Europe participated in the meeting.
