Mitsotakis makes statement on Gaza and 'common interest with Turkey'
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis stated that Europe and Turkey share a common interest in ensuring that the conflict in Gaza does not escalate.
Participating in a panel at the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Berlin, Germany, Mitsotakis said, "(Regarding Gaza) It is in all of our interests to ensure that this conflict does not escalate.
I believe it is in all of our interests to ensure that this conflict does not go beyond the terrible situation we are already having to deal with.
The same interest applies to Turkey; no one wants to see the conflict escalate further."
In his speech, Mitsotakis underscored the importance of closer dialogue between European countries and Turkey to address current issues.
"I COMPLETELY DISAGREE WITH HIS COMMENTS"
Stating that he wants to host AKP Chairman and President Erdoğan in Greece in December to discuss bilateral relations and regional issues, Mitsotakis said, "I completely disagree with President Erdoğan's comments regarding Hamas. But that is not a reason not to host President Erdoğan in Greece."
Mitsotakis added that in his meeting with Erdoğan, they would also discuss the normalization of bilateral relations, EU-Turkey relations, and cooperation on preventing irregular migration.
Speaking at the same panel, Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party leader Friedrich Merz also said that he shared Mitsotakis' views and supported dialogue with Erdoğan.
Referring to President Erdoğan's planned visit to Berlin on November 17, Merz said, "It is the right time to talk."
