Mobile phones banned in schools in that country

Mobile phones have been banned in primary and secondary schools in Brazil.

With the law coming into effect, the use of mobile phones will be prohibited both during classes and during breaks.

In his statement on the matter, Lula da Silva noted that the law was "absolutely" necessary and that similar practices have been implemented in other countries as well.

Stating that he has warned ministers and other officials not to use phones in meetings held since the day he took office, Lula da Silva emphasized that mobile phones lead to distraction.

According to the new regulation, mobile phones can only be used in schools for pedagogical purposes and under the supervision of teachers.

According to a survey conducted by the Locomotiva Institute and QuestionPro in October 2024, 82 percent of Brazilian parents support the mobile phone ban in schools.

Considering the negative effects on the health and learning of children and young people, the regulation to ban the use of mobile phones in primary and secondary schools was passed as a result of a vote in Congress on December 20, 2024.
