Moments of panic in Japan: Two passenger planes collide on the apron

A disaster was narrowly averted in Japan. It was reported that the wings of two passenger planes belonging to Japan Airlines (JAL) collided while entering and exiting the apron.

In a statement from the airline, it was noted that flight 503, which had 328 passengers and crew on board, collided wing-to-wing with an empty plane that was entering the apron as it was departing from the apron at Tokyo Haneda Airport Terminal 1.

While there were no injuries in the accident, which occurred around 07:30 local time, it was stated that flight 503, which was scheduled to fly to New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido prefecture, was canceled.

It was reported that the two Airbus A350-900 type aircraft involved in the accident sustained material damage and that a detailed investigation into the incident has been launched.

5 PEOPLE HAD DIED IN A PLANE CRASH

Japan had previously made headlines with a plane crash on January 2 that shook the global public. Japan Airlines flight 516, an Airbus A350 traveling from New Chitose Airport to Haneda Airport, collided with a Japan Coast Guard (JCG) MA-722 aircraft during landing.

It was announced that 5 personnel on the JCG plane, which was carrying aid supplies to the earthquake zone, lost their lives in the accident.

On January 16, it was reported that a Cathay Pacific passenger plane collided with another aircraft belonging to Korean Air on the runway at New Chitose Airport.

There were no injuries in that accident.
