Monkey enters transformer, leaves entire country without electricity

While power outages across Sri Lanka yesterday affected daily life, Minister of Energy Kumara Jayakody reported that the blackout was caused by a monkey entering a transformer. The electrical failure was criticized by Sri Lankan social media users on the grounds that the infrastructure is outdated. Authorities announced that they have taken action to resolve the malfunction.

The blame for the nationwide power outage, which occurred yesterday following a failure at a power plant south of the Sri Lankan capital, Colombo, and lasted until the early hours of the morning, was placed on the monkey.

In his statement, Jayakody said, 'A monkey entered our grid transformer and caused a failure in the system.'

Following the resolution of the fault, electricity has been gradually restored in the island nation of 22 million people, with priority given to health facilities and water treatment plants. The statements made by officials regarding the malfunction sparked reactions.

The minister's remarks also became the target of criticism on social media. A social media user named Mario Nawfal noted the following:

''A rogue monkey triggered a failure at a substation in Colombo, knocking out Sri Lanka's entire power grid.''

In another post, Nawfal stated, 'One monkey = total chaos. Is it time to rethink the infrastructure?' No information was shared regarding the health status of the monkey.
