More than a thousand pilgrims lose their lives in Mecca

In a statement made by Egyptian diplomatic sources, it was reported that 658 Egyptian citizens have lost their lives, 630 of whom were not registered for the Hajj.

The statement noted that the primary cause of death for the pilgrims was health complications such as high blood pressure triggered by the heat.

According to official sources, 58 out of approximately 150,000 Pakistanis and 183 out of approximately 240,000 Indonesians have lost their lives.

While losses of life have also been reported from Malaysia, India, Jordan, Iran, Senegal, Tunisia, Sudan, and Iraq, the latest data brings the total number of people who have lost their lives from 11 countries during the Hajj pilgrimage to 1,081.

Many people who have gone missing are being searched for by their families and relatives.

Every year, tens of thousands of people travel to the holy lands to perform the Hajj without official registration. Unregistered pilgrims are heavily exposed to the heat as they cannot access air-conditioned areas.

Last year, more than 300 people lost their lives during the Hajj pilgrimage.
