Mount Marapi erupts again!
Four eruptions have occurred since yesterday at Mount Marapi, located in the west of Indonesia's Sumatra Island.
According to a report by Antara News, the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) has announced that volcanic activity at Marapi has increased.
The statement noted that four separate eruptions have occurred at the volcano since yesterday morning, and that the volcano has been spewing ash.
The statement recorded that in the first eruption, which occurred at 07:00 local time yesterday, the volcano spewed ash to a height of approximately 1000 meters, and announced that second and third eruptions also took place throughout the day yesterday.
The statement included information that in the fourth eruption, which occurred this morning, the volcano spewed ash to a height of approximately 800 meters.
In May 2024, 67 people lost their lives due to floods caused by the sliding of rock, ash, and soil deposits accumulated as a result of the eruption of Mount Marapi, triggered by monsoon rains.
There are 130 active volcanoes in Indonesia, which is located on the "Pacific Ring of Fire" earthquake and volcanic belt. Marapi, located on the country's Sumatra Island, is known as one of the most active volcanoes in the world and for its sudden eruptions.
