Multi-million euro heist at French museum: 20 pieces of jewelry stolen

The Lalique Museum, located in the town of Wingen-sur-Moder in northeastern France, has made headlines following a jewelry heist that took place early Sunday morning. According to initial reports, the thief or thieves headed directly to the section where the jewelry was displayed after entering the museum.

According to information provided by sources close to the investigation, the incident occurred at approximately 05:30 local time. It is reported that about 20 valuable pieces were stolen, and according to initial assessments, the damage could approach 4 million euros.

It was learned that the alarm system was triggered during the robbery. However, it was reported that the first person to arrive at the scene before the security company could complete its checks was a cleaning staff member at the museum. The employee noticed the situation and notified the police.

Police teams have begun reviewing security camera footage from the museum following the incident. The investigation is ongoing to identify the thief or thieves and to recover the stolen items.

As reported by AFP, the museum management announced in a statement on its official website that the Lalique Museum will remain closed to visitors for a few days due to the theft.

Opened in 2011, the Lalique Museum houses works related to jewelry and glass art by René Lalique, one of the leading figures of the Art Nouveau and Art Deco movements.

The robbery has also brought the debate over museum security in France back to the agenda. Last year, a robbery in the country at the Louvre Museum in Paris, where jewelry worth approximately 102 million dollars was stolen, had caused widespread repercussions.
