Namibian President Hage Geingob has passed away
Namibian President Hage Geingob, who was undergoing cancer treatment, has died at the age of 82.
It has been reported that President Hage Geingob of Namibia, located in the southwest of the African continent, has passed away at the hospital where he was receiving treatment.
According to a statement from the President's office, Geingob passed away on Sunday while undergoing treatment.
The statement noted that the medical team at Lady Pohamba Hospital had done everything in their power.
The 82-year-old Geingob had been receiving treatment for cancer.
Namibia's Acting President Nangolo Mbumba announced that the Cabinet would convene immediately to make the necessary arrangements.
Geingob, who had been the President of Namibia since 2015, was set to complete his second and final term in office this year. Geingob had previously announced that he had overcome prostate cancer in 2014.
Namibia will head to the polls in November to elect its new leader.
