NATO countries give negative response to Trump's 'Hormuz' call

Following US President Trump's statement that NATO member countries should send warships to ensure the passage of oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, which is under Iranian control, statements have come from NATO members Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, and Greece.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that they would not participate in the war and gave a negative response to the call from the US to ensure the security of the Strait of Hormuz.

The German government spokesperson stated that the war in Iran has nothing to do with the NATO defense alliance, reiterating that Germany will not participate in either the war or efforts to keep the Strait of Hormuz open through military means.

The government spokesperson said, "As long as this war continues, we will not be involved in efforts to keep the Strait of Hormuz open through military means."

UK Prime Minister Starmer said that the US's Iran attacks and the Strait of Hormuz are not a NATO issue.

The Italian Foreign Minister also stated that a naval operation regarding the Strait of Hormuz is not on the horizon, while another NATO member, Greece, announced that they would not be involved in any military operation in the Strait of Hormuz.
