NATO precaution from Russia: Security plans are being drafted
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that they view all nuclear weapons belonging to NATO countries—the US, the UK, and France—as a single nuclear arsenal and that they are drafting plans to ensure Russia's security.
Sergey Lavrov met with Gambian Foreign Minister Mamadou Tangara, who is visiting Russia.
The two ministers held a joint press conference following their meeting in the capital, Moscow.
Drawing attention to the situation in Africa during the meeting, Lavrov stated that the terrorist threat from jihadist groups linked to ISIS and Al-Qaeda is increasing and that they are concerned about this.
Pointing to the problems emerging within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Lavrov said, "We hope that the problems arising in the relations between ECOWAS members will be resolved through dialogue based on equality and mutual respect."
Lavrov expressed that they are in favor of Gambians and Africans finding solutions to the crises on the African continent themselves.
"WE HOPE THE UN WILL RESOLVE THE UNRWA ISSUE IN CONTACTS WITH ISRAEL"
Noting that the Israeli administration has accused employees of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) of involvement in the October 7 attacks, Lavrov stated that he hopes the UN will resolve this issue in its contacts with Israel.
Lavrov assessed, "If an investigation is conducted, the facts will emerge, but if the punishment of UNRWA is at stake during the investigation, the decision to be taken will not be correct."
Minister Lavrov reminded that UNRWA has implemented various projects aimed at improving the living conditions of Palestinians in the occupied territories.
Evaluating the claims that the US plans to deploy nuclear weapons in the UK, Lavrov stated that they are verifying the information on this matter and said, "We view all nuclear weapons belonging to the 3 NATO countries (the US, the UK, and France) as a single nuclear arsenal, and we are drafting plans to ensure the security of the Russian Federation."
"WE CALL ON ECOWAS TO ENGAGE WITH THE COUNTRIES"
Gambian Foreign Minister Tangara, for his part, emphasized that Africa's approaches should be represented in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
Pointing out that Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger have decided to withdraw from ECOWAS, Tangara called on ECOWAS to engage with the countries in question.
