Nearly 95 million people in Europe live at risk of poverty

It has been reported that approximately 95 million people in the European Union (EU) were at risk of poverty last year. The countries with the lowest rates of poverty or social exclusion were Czechia at 12 percent, Slovenia at 14 percent, and Finland and Poland at 16 percent.

Nearly 95 million people in Europe live at risk of poverty

The European Statistical Office (Eurostat) has published data regarding those living at risk of poverty and social exclusion in EU countries in 2023.

Accordingly, 21 percent of the population in the EU faced the risk of poverty or social exclusion last year.

94.6 MILLION PEOPLE AT THE POVERTY LINE

In EU countries, 94.6 million people lived at the poverty line.

The countries with the highest rates of people living at the poverty line were determined to be Romania at 32 percent, Bulgaria at 30 percent, Spain at 27 percent, and Greece at 26 percent.

The countries with the lowest rates of poverty or social exclusion were Czechia at 12 percent, Slovenia at 14 percent, and Finland and Poland at 16 percent.

The poverty rate was recorded at 21.3 percent in Germany, 20.4 percent in France, and 22.8 percent in Italy.
